Positive Behaviour Support

The direct work we provide with people who are on the autism spectrum or who have an intellectual or developmental disability primarily draws on PBS. This is the combination of behavioural analysis (what, where, why, when, how), person centred planning (how best to support the person have the best life possible and reduce the likelihood of behavioural challenges) which are all underpinned by a strong values base and ethically led protocols where quality of life improvement through competence and skills building are key.

Keeping a close eye on progress by taking data is essential to make sure there is improvement for the person, and if not, the data will quickly tell us to adjust.

PBS does not 'fix' people, it gives us an evidence-based way to understand the reason why  behaviour described as challenging happens and, in the best interest of the person within their unique context, how this can be improved upon.

Please note - Not everyone requires a full PBS plan. As a broad estimate, 80-90% require a good person centred plan (PCP), 5-15% require a PCP and some additional support strategies and between 1-7% of people will require a full functional assessment and their PCP to be led by the PBS plan.
